As 2005 comes to a close, we'd like to share with you some of the great things that happened at Youth for Technology Foundation (YTF) this year.

  • Over 300 youth were trained at the Owerri Digital Village . YTF provides opportunities for rural youth to harness the strength of technology for social and economic leadership. Throughout the year, YTF worked with youth from local schools, youth groups and communities on YTF project based programs; TechKids, TechTeens and TechCommunities.
  • YTF hosted the first ever United Nations Information Technology Services (UNITeS) Volunteers in Nigeria at the Owerri Digital Village . UNITeS is a global initiative that promotes volunteer involvement at grassroots initiatives worldwide, to help to bridge the digital divide. YTF hosted two UNITeS volunteer trainers participating in the program from Makerere University, Uganda .
  • YTFs work was showcased at the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS).
YTF was selected as a finalist in the e-Inclusion category of the 2005 World Summit Awards. The World Summit Award (WSA) is a global contest for selecting and promoting the World's best e-contents and applications. YTF participated in a variety of forums and panels during WSIS in Tunis.
  • YTF partnered with the Imo State Government to deliver ICT training to rural farmers. Through the Songhai Redemption Farm project, YTF provided basic information and communication technology training to local farmers. The program focused on how to use technology to solve basic business needs and requirements such as researching comparable market prices for produce and basic record keeping.
