Beyond Access Inspires: Priscilla’s Perspective

Beyond Access transforms local libraries into digital hubs and helps women and youth gain the 21st century digital skills they need to succeed.

Untitled1My name is Priscilla and I participate in Youthfor Technology’s (YTF) Beyond Access program. I’m from Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria, and currently in my second year in college.

Prior to Beyond Access, I’d never had an opportunity to use a computer. The training with this program has profoundly impacted my interests and career ambitions.

To begin with, I realized the need to be proactive in developing my skills. I’d had very limited opportunities at my university to develop ICT (information, communications and technology) skills, so the ICT training I received at YTF was truly eye-opening. I’m now determined to seek opportunities to further develop ICT skills.

I’m also now very much interested in pursuing STEM careers. YTF staffer Mr. Chibuke Egejuru was an extremely helpful, excellent instructor in that he helped me learn with ease even though it was my first time learning about technology. I aspire to further develop ICT skills and apply the knowledge to help reduce social problems such as robbery, economic insecurity, etc.

In addition, I’ve come to cultivate the ambition to open my own computer training center where people can use its computer and Internet facilities. I believe the business will not only give me financial independence, but also serve as a way to serve my communities.

I’m forever thankful for YTF and wish more youth could have access to its education. I have friends who can’t afford the transportation fees to travel to YTF training centers. With the skills and ambitions I acquired through Beyond Access, I aspire to expand access to technology education to those in need in future.
