YTF Partners with the United Nations to implement an Economic Empowerment Program for Women
Empowering women in the Niger-Delta region…
Women in the Niger-Delta region are at a higher disadvantage than their contemporaries in the other regions because of their peculiar environmental situation. The exploitation and exploration of crude oil in the region has resulted in considerable damage to the ecosystem, which supports the livelihood of the people.
YTF is working with the United Nations Fund for Women (UNIFEM) to develop ICT based CD-ROMs for ongoing training and self training by women in the Niger Delta area to how they can start up, and expand their businesses given the peculiar nature of the Niger Delta and the abject poverty experienced by women.

The use of ICT based training will deliver not only information about growing businesses, but expose women to ICTs and use of simple technology as well as provide information on how to access the web for information and basic skills for conflict management, local governance and basic knowledge of HIV/AIDS.
The training commenced in October 2006 and over 1500 rural women were impacted during the one-month training period.
